Review
Child prodigy, went through the courts of Europe from the age of six with his father Leopold and his sister Nannerl. After years at the service of the Archbishop of Salzburg, he broke up with him in 1781 and settled in Vienna as an independent musician, something exceptional in his time, living with concerts, classes and assignments.
In just 35 years he left more than 600 works, collected in the Köchel catalogue. He dominated all genres: his piano concerts set the model of the classic concert and his operas with libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte are still among the most represented in the world. He died in December 1791, leaving his Réquiem unfinished.
