Robert Schumann

The romantic par excellence.

Romanticism · Germany and Austria

1810 – 1856

Zwickau - Endenich (Bonn)

Review

He studied law, but left him for music; a hand injury truncated his pianist career and led him to turn into composition. In 1834 he founded the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik, from where he made known Chopin and, years later, Brahms.

In 1840 he married Clara Wieck after a long lawsuit with her father; that year he wrote over a hundred songs. His music, full of literary fantasy, alternating outburst and dreaming. His last years were marked by the disease and he died in a sanatorium near Bonn.
