Review
A virtuous violinist born in Vienna, he traveled to Italy with Gluck in 1763. He was a chapel teacher in Gran Varadino and then at the service of the Príncipe- bishop of Breslau, who got him the nobility title «von Dittersdorf» in 1773.
According to tenor Michael Kelly, he came to play in quartet with Haydn, Mozart and Vandal. His Singspiel Doktor und Apotheker (1786) was one of the greatest successes of the Viennese theatre of his time, and his programmatic symphonies on the Metamorphosis of Ovidio anticipate descriptive music.
