Review

Violinist and chapel vicemaestro in the court of Salzburg, Leopold Mozart published in 1756 —the year Wolfgang was born— a violin treaty that became a reference work throughout Europe.

He devoted much of his life to the education of his children and to organizing his tours through European courts. His own music, often descriptive and full of humor, includes pieces with unusual instruments such as hunting tubes, rattlesnakes or toys.

Main works

  • Violin Treaty «Versuch einer gründlichen Violinschule» (1756)
  • Concert for trumpet in reed major (1762)
  • Hunting symphony (Samponia da caccia)
  • Sled tour (Musikalische Schlittenfahrt)
  • Peasant wedding (Die Bauernhochzeit)
  • Symphony of toys (attributed)
