Review

Formed as a young singer in the cathedral of Valencia, he succeeded as a composer of operas and ballets in Italy before arriving in Vienna in 1785. There, with libretos by Lorenzo Da Ponte, he premiered A rare thing (1786), which successfully surpassed the wedding of Figgaro released shortly before.

Mozart cited a melody of a rare thing at the scene of Don Giovanni's dinner. Since 1788 he worked in St. Petersburg for Catherine the Great, with a stage in London, and he died there.
