Organist and chapel teacher in several churches in Milan, Sammartini was one of the first to write concert symphonies independent of the opera, already in the 1730s.
His music, on horseback between Baroque and Classicism, spread throughout Europe. He was a master of Gluck and his style impressed the young Mozart during his stay in Milan.
