Review
In 1863, he became the most applauded opera composer in France in the late 19th century. He was also an influential professor of composition at the Paris Conservatory.
His operas stand out for his melodic elegance and his portrait of the female characters. The «Meditation» de Thaïs is one of the best known violin pieces in the repertoire.
