Georges Bizet

Carmen's author.

Romanticism · France

1838 – 1875

Paris - Bougival

Review

He entered the Conservatory of Paris at the age of nine and won the Rome Prize in 1857. With seventeen he composed a symphony that remained forgotten until its premiere in 1935.

Carmen, released in 1875, disconcerted the public for her realism. Bizet died three months later, at 36 years old, without seeing how he became one of the most popular operas in history.
