Life
Ottorino Respighi was born in Bologna on July 9, 1879 and formed as a violinist and violist. He worked in the orchestra of the St. Petersburg Opera, where he received orchestration classes from Rimski-Kórsakov, a teaching that is shown on every page of his music.
Established in Rome since 1913 as a professor at the Liceo de Santa Cecilia, he composed his famous Roman trilogy: Fontane di Roma, Pini di Roma and Feste romane. In them he paints with the orchestra moments of the day and landscapes of the city, with techniques close to impressionism. He was also a great scholar of Italian ancient music, who recreated in his Antiche dance ed arie. He died in Rome on 18 April 1936.
