Life

Manuel de Falla was born in Cadiz on November 23, 1876. He was formed in Madrid with Felipe Pedrell, who inculcated his interest in traditional Spanish music, and in 1905 won a competition with the opera The short life. In 1907 he settled in Paris, where the friendship of Debussy, Ravel and Dukas was decisive for his style.

Back in Spain in 1914, he wrote Nights in the gardens of Spainthe work in which his Andaluticism is more clearly melted with the impressionist color, and then the ballets Love Witch and The three-peak hat. His later music became more austere and neoclassical. After the Civil War he was exiled in Argentina, where he died in Alta Gracia on November 14, 1946.
