Review
Great figure of the Neapolitan opera, worked between 1776 and 1784 in St. Petersburg for Catherine the Great. There it premiered in 1782 Il barbiere di Siviglia, which was a huge success decades before the Rossini version.
Back in Naples, he continued to succeed with works like Nina or La molinara, whose aria «Nel cor più non mi sento» He inspired variations to Beethoven. Napoleon, his admirer, called him Paris as a chapel master.
