Review
Almost self-taught, he studied law in Leipzig, where he founded a college music. After passing through Sorau, Eisenach and Frankfurt, he was a musical director of Hamburg for 46 years.
He wrote more than three thousand works and in his time was more famous than Bach: in 1722 Leipzig chose him as a singer of St. Thomas, as he rejected and ended up occupying Bach. He was best man for Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach.
