Review
He studied law and worked as an official before entering the newly created St. Petersburg Conservatory; then he taught in Moscow. For fourteen years, he received financial support from Nadezhda von Meck, with whom he was carting himself without ever meeting her in person.
His ballets, symphonies and concerts are among the most beloved works of the repertoire. In 1891 he led at the opening of the Carnegie Hall in New York. He died nine days after his sixth symphony, the «Pathetic».
