Gioachino Rossini

The genius of the opera bufa.

Romanticism · Italy

1792 – 1868

Pesaro - Passy (Paris)

Review

He composed operas at a dizzy pace: Il barbiere di Siviglia (1816) was written in about three weeks. Its rhythmic spark and its famous crescends conquered Europe as a whole.

Located in Paris, he retired from the opera at 37 years after Guillaume Tell. He lived almost forty more years, dedicated to the good table and small pieces he called «Old-age sin».
