Life

Federico Mompou was born in Barcelona on April 16, 1893. Listening to Fauré in a concert decided to be a composer, and in 1911 he moved to Paris, where he lived again between 1921 and 1941. His timidity drove him away from the concert career and led him to write almost exclusively for piano and voice.

His music is of radical simplicity and intimacy: naked melodies, harmonies that resonate as bells and silences that are part of the work. The heir to French impressionism and Catalan popular tradition, his great will is Quiet music, inspired by San Juan de la Cruz. He died in Barcelona on 30 June 1987.
